9-20-10 email

Aloha Ohana (family)
So it's been another crazy busy week..... first off after I emailed last week I ran into Kyra Williams, crazy huh, and we had dinner at the Stokes and their son dated Cheyanne Winters ( she is Kevin's age) they are such a fun family!! Oh and Cheyanne is Sister Stadlers niece, so crazy!!! We also have a baptism date for a 14 year old girl named Sia. She is a given though, they lost her baptism record so we still have to go through the lessons but she is completely active. The cool thing is her mom isn't and we are starting to teach her the lessons too so that's cool. That was all on Mon. So then Wed. we met a 19 year old boy named Jinnyson and taught him and his Dad a short lesson, it was so cool though cuz we gave him a Book of Mormon and he just started reading it. We shared some scriptures on over coming trials and trusting in the Lord and he was so excited. It was neat, then on Thurs we just had another awesome spiritual day, we net a lady named Sapina and shared a message with her, it's cool when you can tell that they can feel the spirit and they want more. Friday we went over to Christin Hoffmans house (investigator) and taught her about Relief Society and Young Women's. She just LOVES it and want to go to the Relief Society broadcast with us and wants to know when General Conference is. Then we did her hair for the air force ball, is was so much fun!!!! She is such a nice and fun lady!!! We also went and taught a guy in his 50's, Thomas, and he committed to be baptized by Oct. 30 -he has a smoking problem- he is from the Philippines and we are all smiles when he was with us, his Dad died about a month ago and he is recently divorced so it was good to see him so happy and know that it was the Spirit. On Sat. Sister Stadler exchanged with some other sisters so my companion was Sister Tueruru, she is from an island by Fiji so she has a heavy accent. She is a really fun bubbly missionary. We did get a new investigator together, we actually met her knocking on doors, her name is Sandy and she has 3 kids 8,16,18 and really wants to learn more, was excited to read the Book of Mormon and we will meet with her next week so I'm way excited! I also talked to this awesome black man named Albert Williams who said he is still looking for a church, we had to give his info the the elders though cuz he doesn't live in our area but I'm excited for him too!!!! OH GUESS WHAT?!?! so yeah, totally found out Thursday night we needed to give a talk on Sunday in the Aliamonu Ward! Ha, luckily I still had the tape that I made for Ray with my farewell talk on it so I just copied it down . lol. So Sat night I wrote my talk, oh and for dinner we went to members house, Sister Domanty, she looks about my age, or a few years older and is divorced with 3 boys. We connected so fast it was cool cuz she asked me about my necklace (mizpah coin) so I told her Ray had the other half and she wanted to hear our story so I told her, she loved it, said it gave her hope, and then I share my favorite scripture Prov 3:5-6 she wrote it down....... the cool thing was is that it sounds so silly to talk about that but the spirit was there and I really do feel like it helped her. Sunday we gave our talks and I didn't even cry!! :) It went well, Aliamonu is a smaller ward so it's not as scary. After Sister Domantay came up to me and told me how much she enjoyed my talk and wanted to get my info to make sure she has it before I leave (even though I'll be here a few months I'm sure) but it made me feel really good. After church we taught a 14 year old girl named Sam who is awesome, loves the gospel but her parents won't let her get baptized cuz they think she is too young. She goes to church with her friend and we teach at her friends house. The members in both wards are crazy about missionary work so they do what they can to help us, I honestly wound;t mind spending a lot of my mission here, I love the people so much. Oh and I'm still coughing like I was at the MTC, we think it could be the Vog.... it's volcano smoke.... you can't see it but it's there.

Thanks!!!! Write me a letter, they are so much better and more fun :) with pics!!!!!! I hope you are doing well!!!!! I miss y'all and love y'all so much !!!!!!!!

Letter

First of all here is some of the letter Mandy sent this past week. She wrote the first part of it at the MTC then finished it after she got to Hawaii.

Momma .........Aloha
So today is my last P-day in the MTC!!!! So crazy, but I wanted to share with you the coolest experience I had at the Temple today. So while I was in the Celestial room the song "A Child's Prayer" popped into my head and no joke mom I could feel my kids cheering me on and just being so excited that I'm serving it was cool. So on Sunday they had a meeting for the Sisters on the new dress code. They still want to look nice/professional but skirts just have to cover the knee when standing, nylons are no longer required and they want lots of color. I did find out that cap sleeves are not OK and I'm really casual..... but I'm not worried yet cuz Hawaii is casual but I might need new tops. I'll keep you posted..... You should be excited cuz now that me and Ray can't email, you'll be getting longer emails!! lol I don't really have much to say right now so I'll write more later. Oh I almost forgot they will be rededicating the Laie Temple this fall, so there is a good chance I could be there!!! How exciting is that!!
9-7-10 ( this was her next entry on her letter)
Day one awesome!!!!!! We were able to go to a baptism!! Which was awesome the members were so nice and welcoming! The spirit was awesome!! I got my first area to the Honolulu West Zone and my trainer/comp is........ believe it or not......... Sister Stadler from Smoot WY. So I'm excited.

9-1-10 Letter

Whats up Momma????
Well I'm going to e-mail you today so I might repeat myself in this letter. I hope you like the pics. They're fun. All of us get along so great! It makes me sad that I only have one more week with them. I'll probably see Sister Parkin and Sister Braun while on the mission but my comp. Sister Russell will be in Boston, makes us sad. So last night we opened up the chips and cheese salsa you sent me and ate it! Thank you so much! I absolutely LOVED the package and so did the other sisters. So how things going at home? Have you started work yet? Do you like it? Hows Ryan doing? Any luck selling the cars? I would love some pics of my dogs. I tell everyone how cute Copper is but when I say he's pug boxer mix they look at me like I'm crazy. So things here are going good. It's so different than you could ever imagine/prepare for. But I'm loving it. The days go by so fast. I won't lie it is weird to be back in a class room studying and learning again.
Oh, before I forget, so every week everyone has to write a talk and after the sacrament is passed they announced who the speakers are..... yup of course out of all the sisters ( there is only 6 of us) I got called. It wasn't bad, 35 min is really nothing, but I was really nervous. It was on praying often. So man, lets just say even though I did some dumb things in my past, when it comes to talks and relating to people, its been a blessing.
I love ya'll and miss ya'll keep me posted on things!!!! Thanks again for everything!!! Give everyone a hug for me!!
Love Sister Brough

Letter sent 8-25

Aloha Mom and Dad.
Things are awesome here. So Elder Holland spoke to us last night about the importance of missionary work and that we are troops going into war, a spiritual war.... peoples salvation is at stake. It was an AMAZING talk!! So my comp Sister Russell and I get along and she is amazing, very spiritual and ready to get out there and teach. Before I forget tell Dad the reason Kevin or my e-mails might not have correct punctuation is because we don't have time, lol, sending e-mails are intense, we are timed at the MTC and when our time is up it signs you off and you're done and on the mission you have less time so it's not that important.
Pictures are fun.....( I think that is a hint to send some) I love ya'll and miss ya. But I'm doing good. It feels kinda like EFY not gonna lie, just here is a bit more intense.
Take care, let me know whats going on!!!!!
Love Sister Brough
I can tell this blog is going to take a little more time to keep up with. Mandy writes so much more than Kevin, but I will try to keep up with it all, and summarize quite a bit of it.

Here is her first e-mail to us August 25th 2010

Well I wanted to share something with you, I thought and hope will be a comfort. I know it kinda got to you that Justin and Kevin weren't homesick..... and I wanted to let you know that you should be happy about that..... in Preach My Gospel Pres Ezra Taft Benson said "I have often said one of the greatest secrets of missionary work is work! If a missionary works, he will get the spirit, if he gets the spirit he will be reached by the spirit, he will touch the hearts of the people and he will be happy. There will be NO HOMESICKNESS, no worrying about families, for all the time and talents and interests are centered on the work of the ministry. Work work work- there is no satisfactory substitute, especially in missionary work." So it's a good thing you've got hard working kids who are out serving the lord and are blessed to not be home sick. The MTC is awesome! My companion is from Rawlings WY her name is Sister Russell. We get along great she makes sure to get my butt our of bed at 5:40a.m. so we can go to gym class they have here just for the sisters. The other Sisters in my room is Sister Parkin from Holiday UT, and Sister Braun from Fresno CA, and all of us have boyfriends. lol. I will have to write more in a letter cuz I am running out of time. The MTC is hard, learning how to teach is rough but I love it. It's a great experience. We get to go do a session in the temple today and I'm siked and Elder Holland came and spoke with us yesterday. I'll write to you about it. LOVE YOU GUYS!!!!!!!
Sister Brough (haha still funny to write it, I don't know when or if I'll ever get used to it.)
